Synopsis (from Goodreads):

In Night of Cake & Puppets, Taylor brings to life a night only hinted at in the Daughter of Smoke & Bone trilogy—the magical first date of fan-favorites Zuzana and Mik. Told in alternating perspectives, it’s the perfect love story for fans of the series and new readers alike. Petite though she may be, Zuzana is not known for timidity. Her best friend, Karou, calls her “rabid fairy,” her “voodoo eyes” are said to freeze blood, and even her older brother fears her wrath. But when it comes to the simple matter of talking to Mik, or “Violin Boy,” her courage deserts her. Now, enough is enough. Zuzana is determined to meet him, and she has a fistful of magic and a plan. It’s a wonderfully elaborate treasure hunt of a plan that will take Mik all over Prague on a cold winter’s night before finally leading him to the treasure: herself! Violin Boy’s not going to know what hit him.

Review

Okay, I just want to say THANK YOU LET for giving me the chance to read this book! It was the most adorable thing IN THE WORLD!

So if you aren't familiar with the Daughter of Smoke and Bone trilogy, then you should probably go read it because it is the best series in the world! Honestly, it's one of my top three favourite YA series!

This story is about Zuzana and Mik's first date which is only hinted at in the books. Apparently, Zuzana had this grand scheme to make Mik notice her...and it worked! This is all about that night she got him to be her's with a few minor (forgivable and swoon worthy) hiccups. Note: this story actually takes place BEFORE Days of Blood and Starlight, and somewhere in Daughter of Smoke and Bone.

Zuzana was very quirky, very in-your-face and so freaking amazing in this short story! I loved her, and I actually liked seeing both her and Mik outside of Karou's world. I loved how we got a chance to see her confront Kaz, Karou's a-hole of an ex-boyfriend, and this singer in the theatre with her who thinks she's all that. My favourite part (other than her and Mik getting together) was her messing up the singer's drink! I love Zuzana and her crazy antics!

And Mik was as sweet as ever. He's a little older than Zuzana but he turns into a love-sick bot whenever he's with her, and at the end when he makes the scavenger hunt work to his advantage, I was swooning! It was so adorable! Mik and Zuzana are such a great couple, and I'm really so happy that they're cool with Karou and her ultra-secret double life (even though he doesn't even know about it yet).

This ebook is TOTALLY worth reading if you are a fan of the series! The Daughter of Smoke and Bone trilogy is really dark, but this novella is like a little piece of sunshine to all the darkness and drama found throughout the series! It's totally worth a read!

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars!
