Synopsis (from Goodreads):

I didn't ask for any of this. I didn't ask to be some kind of hero.
But when your whole life gets swept up by a tornado—taking you with it—you have no choice but to go along, you know?

Sure, I've read the books. I've seen the movies. I know the song about the rainbow and the happy little blue birds. But I never expected Oz to look like this. To be a place where Good Witches can't be trusted, Wicked Witches may just be the good guys, and winged monkeys can be executed for acts of rebellion. There's still the yellow brick road, though—but even that's crumbling.

What happened?
Dorothy. They say she found a way to come back to Oz. They say she seized power and the power went to her head. And now no one is safe.

My name is Amy Gumm—and I'm the other girl from Kansas.
I've been recruited by the Revolutionary Order of the Wicked.
I've been trained to fight.
And I have a mission:
Remove the Tin Woodman's heart.
Steal the Scarecrow's brain.
Take the Lion's courage.
Then and only then—Dorothy must die!

Note: I received this book from Indigo Books as a gift, this does not affect my review in any way.

This isn't your typical tale about Oz. It's about the other girl from Kansas with pink hair who crashed into a strange place in a trailer home with her pet rat, Star. She doesn't know what happened, but she does know that Dorothy must die!

Okay, so this review was supposed to be longer, but blogger was being mean and deleted my review. So yeah. I can tell you for certain that this story is going to be awesome!

Dorothy Must Die is about Amy Gumm, the other girl from Kansas circa. 21st century. She doesn't have a blue dress or a bow. She got pink hair. She doesn't have a crazy, overbearing aunt. She got an alcoholic mother. She doesn't have a cute, pet dog. She has a rat named Star. And oh, she lands in a trailer home.

Amy lives a fairly dull and depressing life in Kansas. Her mom left her to go hang out with her friends when they both know a tornado is coming, and she just got suspended from school after getting into a fight with a pregnant girl.

She wakes up, and is pulled out of her trailer by a mysterious guy with emerald green eyes before it falls into a dark, never ending pit. As she thanks her hero, she realizes he's standing on a yellow brick road that she's known since childhood. She's in Oz, and it looks, well...crappy. Before he disappears into the pit, her hero tells her to be brave and to prove him wrong. Like Dorothy, she ends up in munchkin land, but instead of being greeted by song, she's greeted by a sassy punk-munchkin named Indigo. Amy sees a statue of the Dorothy Gale herself, and knows she's in Oz. Amy asks Indigo what happened, and the munchkin tells her that Dorothy herself happened.

My excerpt was four chapters long, and yes, that ALL happened within the first four chapters. I am impressed, amazed and now wanting a copy of the book myself. There's NO doubt that this story stands out from other fairy tale/ classic retellings because: 1) the main character has an attitude and knows it, and 2) the former protagonist is the villain!

I really can't wait to read the entire book! I want to know what happened to Oz, how Amy ends up saving Oz, what happened to the original characters (and if they're working of evil Dorothy), if she even wants to go home, if she'll be able to kill Dorothy...AND WHAT THE HECK HAPPENED TO DOROTHY?

I also want to know who the mysterious guy is. So far, everything still seems the same with the original story, except for the fact that the dog is a rat. I really think Amy's saviour is the Wizard. That would be a cute ship!

Anyways, I CAN'T wait for Dorothy Must Die!
