Six Months of Sleepless Reading: Erin Albert Interview + Giveaway

WOOOHOOO! It's the first day of my blogaversary, and the first person on my stop is Erin Albert, author of The Prophecy! I got a chance to interview her, so go check it out bellow! And don't forget to enter the contest bellow!

Synopsis (from Goodreads):

Growing up on a small farm in the kingdom of Vanguard, seventeen-year-old Layla Givens lives a deceptively tranquil existence. But her carefully constructed life quickly falls apart when she’s abducted by a religious zealot who proclaims her The Fulfillment of an ancient peace prophecy and whisks her away to marry her greatest enemy.

Wilhelm, Prince of the Ethereals, is reluctant to meet his new bride. He's grown up believing Vanguards are evil, an enemy to fight and fear...not love. Can he set aside his prejudices and work alongside Layla to bring lasting peace after centuries of war?

Nash, a loner who has never fit in, carries a huge secret, one big enough to destroy both kingdoms. When he accidently meets Layla, he’s no longer content to live in the shadows, but he must resist his growing attraction—for her safety and for the longevity of the two kingdoms.

When Nash's secret is revealed, a firestorm sweeps through both realms, with Layla at the center. Now she must choose between duty and desire while the fate of two nations hangs in the balance. & Noble

Hello Erin, I am so glad that you're here for my blogaversary! I really appreciate it! We'll start off with some easy questions:
What are three things about yourself that most people don't know about?

1) I am deathly afraid of fire.  I mean, I won’t even allow candles on birthday cakes because I’m THAT afraid.

2) I have been acting on stage most of my life, but I still get supremely nervous before EVERY show.  In all my years acting, I’ve only forgotten a line once or twice. But I always keep my script backstage as my “security blanket even though I never look at it.

3) I cry every time I watch or read Romeo and Juliet because I secretly hope the ending has changed somehow.

What have you recently read, and would you ever trade places with that character in said book?
I am currently reading Vicious with my significant other, Jay.  I can’t say I’d want to switch lives with Victor or Eli.  I think it would be cool to have special powers, but I don’t think I’d want to go about getting them the way these two have!! Eep!
What made inspired you to write The Prophecy?

I like to say The Prophecy is Game of Thrones meets Arthurian legend.  I’ve always been fascinated with the story of King Arthur, Lady Guinevere, and Sir Lancelot. But when George R.R. Martin combined that world with the fantastical one, my mind really went to work!

Your main character, Layla, goes through a lot in The Prophecy. If you were able to magically transport yourself into that world, and give her only three pieces of advice, what would it be?

I would tell her:

1) Believe in yourself (I think we can all use that advice)

2) Don’t be afraid to fight for yourself, but don’t reject the assistance of those who love you either.

3) Sometimes life doesn’t make sense, but that’s what makes it exciting. Embrace it.

There is a lot of political and familial conflict that is left at the end of The Prophecy that doesn't get solved. How will that affect Layla, Nash, and Wil in the next book relationship-wise and personality-wise?

In the upcoming books, the reader will grow and change with the characters.  Layla comes into her own more as she begins to figure herself out.  The political conflicts shape her perspective on the world in which she lives and builds her resolve. Meanwhile, Nash continues to take familial and political risks, sometimes with big rewards and other times with epic failures.  Of the three, I think he learns the hardest lessons. As for Wil…I can’t comment on him as his future in The Prophecy remains up in the air… ;)

At the end of The Prophecy, there is a shift in power with the Ethereals and Vanguards, as well as a massive shocker pertaining to the Prophecy. What role will Layla be playing in the next book since the shocking reveal relates back to her well-being?

Layla is still the main character of the series, but new characters are introduced in The Outlanders (some you’ll love and some you’ll hate). The shocking revelation about the prophecy itself affects Layla deeply.  She must now grapple with her identity as well as her role in the peace process.
I've noticed that each group in the series has a crest. Do they mean anything specifically? And when will we be able to see the Outlanders crest?

Yes, the crests all have great meaning.  My friend Danielle designed them, and she’s big into symbolism. Every single piece, even the colors, exists on the crest for a reason. For example: The shape of the Ethereal crest (diamond with a line at the top) is the symbol for persuasion.  Since the Ethereals possess the ability to alter minds, Danielle included it in the crest.

When will The Outlanders be out, and are you currently working on it?

The Outlanders has been submitted to my editor and publisher, and I’m just waiting on the official contract and publication date.  My content editor, Katie Carroll, is expecting a baby in the summer, so we are working hard to get her portion of the edits complete before then.

Can you describe The Outlanders using 7 words?

Fast-paced, revealing, anxiety-inducing, world-building, character-transforming, epic, mind-blowing.

 Who are the Outlanders?

Right now, they are the mysterious neighbors to the south of Etherea and Vanguard.  For centuries, they’ve remained outside the fighting.  Or have they?  The Outlanders pulls back the curtain to reveal a good deal about the history of the First Ones as well as the truth about the secretive third kingdom.
 Can I marry Nash?

Hmmmm…I think Kim from Dream Team and Crystal from Crystal In Bookland may fight you for him!  LOL!  ;)
